Interior Renovation
The Scottish Borders
Ongoing
A collaboration between Meshworks and Rafaela's mum Rusty for her small cottage in the Scottish Borders.
Our task was to design a contemporary 'screen' between the stair and the entrance corridor that would be straightforward enough for Rusty to construct herself.
A series of elegant oak slats run from floor to ceiling, providing privacy from the front door as well as acting as a balustrade.
The oak slats were placed close enough together so that they meet the Scottish building regulations but far enough apart so that light and a sense of spaciousness is maximised. An under-stair cupboard is neatly incorporated into the design and colour is used to define the different layers making the corridor feel wider than it is.
